Baal Theater is a transcultural theater-workshop. Established in 2005 as a research group, and composed by three actors, a director and a designer, it was firstly centered on West African ethnic dances and folk dances of South Italy. During this period of research the show CafË Safiya was born, its dramaturgy was made by the director and the texts were taken from "The Waste Land" and "Four Quartets" by T.S. Eliot and Bernard-Marie KoltËs’ plays. At the end of the show, the company dissolves abruptly, remaining the director and an actress. In 2006 Baal Theater was established as S.A.S. In 2008 the remaining members gathered a new group with a team of five actors to work on a project on the "Commedia dell’Arte", SkenË, funded by the European Community (Youth in Action program, Action 1.2).
The project involves the advice of Italian masters such as Claudia Contin, Ferruccio Merisi and Francesca Della Monica. From SkenË was born "The Misfortunes of Flavio", a plot with an open dramaturgy integrated in every tour with local stories. The idea of research leaded by Baal Theater is to create a half-breed theater, without matrices or root, but in which viewers from all around the world can find and identify themselves.
BAAL THEATER SAS the company belongs to Dania Caroli (limited partner and manager) and Luca Gatta (general partner). It is involved in Actorial training both on stage and using intensive seminars with internationally renowned masters of the theater; liaise with theatrical institutions, cultural associations and theater companies in Italy and abroad.
